The Humanities Faculty
The Humanities Faculty delivers Geography, History, Religious Education and Citizenship lessons to all students at KS3. In Year 7, Humanities subjects are taught in an integrated manner, but as discrete subjects in Years 8 and 9. At KS4, the Humanities Faculty offers GCSE courses in Child Development, Geography, History, Leisure and Tourism, Religious Studies, Citizenship and Sociology. What links these subjects is their focus on humans and what it means to be human. We believe that they play an important part in developing responsible citizens. Students develop academically, politically, socially, emotionally, morally, personally, and spiritually through the courses we offer. We aim to encourage students to:
- Develop into responsible citizens who play an active part in the community
- Recognise that they are not powerless but can bring about change
- Consider their role in and responsibilities to the local, national and global community
- Seek to understand the nature of the world and its future development
- Reflect on the past to understand the present, and be informed for the future
- Ask deep questions about the meaning and purpose of life
- Think for themselves and make reasoned responses
- Develop skills of research, teamwork, enquiry, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, critical reflection and empathy
- Become independent learners who have have a passion for learning
