The ICT and Business Faculty

The ICT and Business Faculty offers 1 hours of practical ICT each week throughout Key Stage 3. Currently at KS4 GCSE ICT is an option and builds on the course offered in Year 9.

We aim to:

Offer every student a broad and balanced curriculum covering a range of ICT applications
Promote awareness of being safe when using ICT
Develop every student's potential by providing suitable challenges and encouraging the pursuit of excellence
Stimulate every student to become independent, hardworking and self-disciplined
Create a happy and caring environment which promotes the development of self-esteem and self-confidence

Key Stage 3 [KS3]
In year 7 students cover 5 modules:

Web design – using the VLE to develop their homepage
Control – using Scratch to control events
Modelling – using a spreadsheet for models and simulations
Data handling – using a database to store, query and retrieve data

In Year 8 students cover 5 modules:

Web design – using Frontpage to create their own websites
Data handling – using a database to store, query and retrieve data
Control – using Crocodile clips and Flash to control events
Modelling – using a spreadsheet for models and simulations

During all modules students are assessed using peer assessment and teacher assessment. Students will be given a level and sub level for each module; this will include written feedback with targets.

In Year 9 students are studying for one GCSE, they cover two units of work:

ICT skills for business – learning skills in spreadsheets, databases, desk top publishing, email, Internet, file management
Creating video – this module is completed in Media Studies lessons

Students will be graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction. This is a level 2 qualification following the OCR Nationals in ICT. There is no examination for this course.

Key Stage 4 ICT [KS4] 6 hours a fortnight
Students who opt for ICT at KS4 will build on the work completed in Year 9. They have the opportunity to achieve up to four GCSEs. Modules covered in KS4 are:

Webpage creation
Digital imaging

Students will be graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction. This is a level 2 qualification following the OCR Nationals in ICT. There is no examination for this course.

Key Stage 4 Business Studies [KS4] 6 hours a fortnight
Students will study:

Ownership and location of business
Business communication
Promoting a product or service

The course is 100% coursework and worth 2 GCSEs. Students will have the opportunity to visit organisations and to participate in the East Sussex Young Consumers of the Year Award.
