Welcome to Media Studies
Media Studies at PCS is taught to all students in year 9 and as a GCSE option subject at Key Stage 4. As a subject it is highly complimentary to Humanities, Art and Drama and uses near identical skills of analysis to those used in English lessons.In year 9 students will study a course covering basic skills of analysis, film studies, horror movie trailer production and reality TV. At key stage four the current GCSE course covers image analysis, science fiction film, magazine production, pop music, comics and TV drama as a starting point in year 10.
Students are encouraged to become reflective and analytical learners, focusing specifically on skills of enquiry, reasoning and evaluation. In classrooms students will learn through a variety of different activities, including:

- Print and web-based research
- Analysis of print, digital and audio-visual media
- Print production
- Video production and editing
- Design of various media products
- Extended written analysis
- Pitching of ideas for new media products
- Presentation work
- Peer to peer teaching
- Application of Media theory
Media Studies is both an academic and practical subject, which is appealing to a variety of learning styles.
We have a hugely enthusiastic and talented team of teaching staff who encourage high behaviour expectations and have a history of excellent results. Our aim is to encourage student participation in a subject area that we all have some knowledge and experience of by creating a challenging and varied curriculum that is accessible to all needs and abilities.
