DID (DO IT DIFFERENTLY) DAY
DID / Open Arts Day last Friday had a variety of activities take place on the school premises and was an outstanding success. The event is listed in the Fringe Festival guide and attracted a great deal of visitors to the school. There were two plays performed in the Drama Hall:
'Stuff I Buried in a Small Town' by Mike BarlettThis play takes a look at modern contemporary life and situations that might occur in a small town, looking at young people in today's society and how they make their mark in an increasingly complicated world.
It also deals with some very serious issues such as mental health, addiction, sexuality, racism, love and relationships, but the cast and crew seemed to take all this in their stride as they put on an extremely impressive and mature performance.

'The Last Resort' by Chris OwenIt is an affectionate and amusing portrait of a day in the life of a bustling seaside town. Beginning in the early morning with the dawn milk float and finishing on the cliffs high above the town 24 hours later. Everything from the lads on the make to the elderly day trippers and from the boy racers to the skinhead like seagulls is included. Yet amongst the comedy there is a darker side with the dreams of a young pregnant girl threading their way through the tapestry of seaside revelry.
It's a very physical play which creates a visual spectacle during the musical numbers when a vast cast is all on stage singing and dancing away. The audience and cast alike couldn't fail to have a lot of fun.
