Attendance at PCS
- There is no entitlement for parents to remove their child from school for the purposes of a holiday in term time
- It is schools and not parents who decide whether an absence is to be authorised
- Any absence breaks the continuity of learning
- The education of all children is disrupted by teachers having to give time to help children catch up on missed work
- If children regularly miss school they are likely to feel less confident when they are in school
- The Secondary Behaviour & Attendance Service supports those schools who follow the guidance on attendance issued by the Department for Education and Skill
Please note: If you take a family holiday during term time (unauthorised or authorised), PCS will not authorise a student to participate in a school day trip or residential within the same 12 month period. In the case of an unauthorised holiday the Behaviour and Attendance Service will be notified of the holiday taken and a Penalty Notice will be issued. Please note that such a penalty is issued to each parent for each child taken out of school. A Penalty Notice is a fine of £50 which increases to £100 if not paid within the first 28 days. Thereafter, if the Penalty remains unpaid this may result in legal action.
Remember:
NO EDUCATION - NO FUTURE - NO EXCUSE!
Good attendance is essential for your success at school and work.
- Please try and avoid making dentist’s and doctor’s appointments during school time. If this is unavoidable, we require a copy of the appointment card and would request that you are in school before and after the appointment to minimise disruption to learning.
- On a typical school day, all students should be in school by 8.40am preparing for their lessons, unless they have extra learning which is taking place prior to this time.
- If you are absent from school due to illness or any other reason, your parents should telephone the attendance line on 01273 575842, before 8.30 am on every day of absence. If we are unable to take your call, please leave a message with the name of the student, their year group and the reason for absence
Students who are late to school twice in the same week will lose their Golden Time.
