Please find attached information that we have just received from Brighton and Sussex Medical school.
At PCS we currently have 14 students in year 9 and 10 who have taken advantage of this opportunity and who are engaging well with the programme.
'Brighton and Sussex Medical School is pleased to open applications for the BrightMed 2019/20 entry. This widening participation initiative aims to identify and support young people who have the potential to become tomorrow’s doctors. BrightMed will increase young peoples’ awareness of studying medicine and will support aspirations and attainment of young people involved in the programme.
Please find attached two separate information sheets. The “Information for Schools” sheet has specific details of the programme and the criteria for candidates, the “Information for Students & Parents” sheet answers any other questions you may well have.
As per previous years, we are asking all applicants to apply online via our web-based application for accessible at: www.bsms.ac.uk/brightmed
The deadline for BrightMed applications is Friday 12th July 2019 and responses will be at the end of August 2019.
The scheme recruits students currently in Year 8, to begin in Year 9. However, we frequently receive requests for older students to join the programme. This is possible and so we certainly welcome their application however young people in Years 9-11 should be aware that offers will be made only if space permits.
Please note that not all applications will be successful as places are limited. Should interested young people not meet the required widening participation criteria, we will still welcome their application but places will be offered only if space permits. For an explanation of what widening participation to medicine aims to achieve, please see this video.
If you would like any further information or have any questions, please get in touch with Sam Wickham on email@example.com.
If your child is interested and would like to speak to students already on the programme, please contact me at school and I'll arrange for this to happen.
