During the summer term, all of our Year 10 students will have the opportunity to start to explore their post-16 options.
Under current government guidelines all students are required to stay in some form of education or training until their 18th birthday.
During PSHEE lessons guidance is given on making informed choices and students are encouraged to research their options.
Students have been choosing which colleges they would like to visit during the summer term and will be allowed time out of school to attend a maximum of 2 taster days. The application process for students will begin fairly early in Year 11, so the taster sessions in Year 10 are very important in the process of helping each student choose their best post-16 provider.
We must stress that students will need to apply directly to the college online in order to secure a place on these taster days. It is important that parental consent is given when applying online.
In order to enable us to authorise the absence on the taster day(s), please could your son/daughter complete the choices section of the attached form.
The completed form will then need to be returned to Miss Clare Murphy (Assistant Head of Year 10 & 11) by Monday 23rd April 2017.
Students will not be allowed out of school unless online consent has been given along with the returned signed permission slip. This will allow your child to attend the colleges of their choice and to travel independently.
Please note that the Sussex Downs taster day falls during Work Experience week. Brighton MET taster days also fall in work experience week. Students will need to seek permission from their employer to take the day off. We have a standard letter available that they can use to do this if required.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Miss Clare Murphy at email@example.com.
