On the 7th November the year 10 rugby team played Blatchington Mill in the Sussex county cup.
From kick off the forwards powered through the opposition and went through a number of phases, making good ground. After conceding some penalties and scrums the boys threw themselves at their opposite numbers and defended very well. However despite the effort Blatch began to outwit our defence and scored some tries.
After half time and a tactical team talk, our moral was high and we were ready to put up a big fight. We put a huge amount of pressure on the other team which consequently made them make mistakes and gave us penalties, scrums and line outs. We used this to our advantage and used our pack to make some bulldozing runs putting us right near their try line on a number of occasions.
Blatchington’s defence was very good and they managed to hold up our players in the try area regardless of the work rate and effort put in. We didn’t let this stop us trying and after a number of set moves and phases we finally were able to get our first score under the posts by George, with a huge drive over the line and a converted kick to follow.
Overall the team had an outstanding performance against a very good side. The pack (Shafi, Richard (VC), Alfie, Joey, Brad, Jake, John and George) dominated in all of the rucks and even managed to counter-ruck the opposition extremely well. Their work rate, powering runs, huge drives and big hits put us on the front foot in the match. The backs (Harvey (C) , Charlie K, Charlie M, Luca, Davi, Jacob and Tyler) persistently put in monstrous tackles, good ball carrying and showed fantastic commitment holding back Blatch and putting their body on the line to prevent conceding.
Despite the loss fantastic work boys, the final score was 24-7 and man of the match performance goes to Shafi for his impressive ball carries and big hits!
