The choosing of their GCSE subjects is an important milestone for Year 8 students.
The subjects chosen will be studied for the last 3 years of their time with us at PCS and therefore need to be chosen carefully. Students need to take into consideration the course content, whether the course is mainly academic or practically based, the amount of time that will be needed to be spent out of school to complete the course and how the course is assessed in course work or final exams.
To help parents and carers obtain the most from the evening, there will be two presentations by myself, and Mr Peevers to fully explain the process. The first presentation will be held at 6.00pm and will be repeated at 6:45pm.
After the presentation, you will be free to visit any subject teachers that you wish to discuss the courses that they are running and also to discuss with them your child’s suitability for that course.
After the evening, all students will be issued with a booklet detailing all the core subject courses and all the option subjects. This will give you an opportunity to discuss the course details in depth with your child before they return their option form by 9.00am on Friday 8th February. This booklet will also contain contact email details for all the subject leaders if you have any further questions.
I would also like to remind you that the Year 8 Parent’s Evening is on Thursday 24th January 3.45 – 6.30 pm. Students will be given appointment sheets so that they can make appointments for you for the evening at the beginning of next term.
I look forward to meeting you on the 10th January.
Mrs Katrina Casterton
Head of Year 8
