We are delighted to announce that year 10 students will undertake a 5 day work experience placement from Monday 13th – Friday 17th May 2019.
The aim of work experience is to provide young people with an opportunity to:
• Obtain a wider awareness of the world of work as part of their general education
• Learn outside the classroom
• Increase their economic understanding
• Develop their employability skills
• Relate their studies to the world of work and training
We would encourage students to find their own work experience placement and to discuss this with Ms Newman or Mrs Carr in the Library once they have chosen their proposed placement. Please be aware that if the placement is outside East Sussex or Brighton & Hove there may be a charge (up to £80) for health and safety checks to be carried out by the local authority. Students will need to submit their placement using a website database called Aspire.
If students are struggling to find their own employer they will be able to use Aspire to apply for a placement already on the system. They will need to make four placement choices, however, we cannot guarantee that students will be placed on their first or second choice due to placement popularity.
Students are given an individual log in and password in the form of a booklet and will be expected to access the Aspire system in their own time. The booklet gives detailed information on how to use the Aspire website.
The website address is:https://aspire.eastsussex-brighton.org.uk/wexpupilchoiceslogin.aspx?aspirenetview=student
Please note this will not work on Apple devices.
We would strongly advise students to choose their own placement and also have four back up options from the Aspire database. Students will need to be prepared to go on any one of these four choices for their work experience week if their own placement falls through. The final deadline for students to have submitted all of their choices on the system is Monday 29th October 2018, we cannot accept own placement requests after this date. Once the placement has been confirmed by the employer we will be writing to you with further information. If you have any problems with meeting this deadline please contact us - details shown below.
In March, students will participate in work experience lessons which help to prepare them for their placement. Topics covered in these lessons will include: health and safety in the workplace, child protection, employer expectations and employability skills.
We hope that all students will enjoy the experience and make the most of their work experience week.
