Our students are at the core of our school. We are committed to acting upon student voice and all students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and responsibilities throughout the school.
This is shown by the way our Student Leadership Programme is developing. We value our students’ voice so much so they are an integral part of our Senior Management meetings: to raise ideas and discuss developments.
We have an active Student Council which is democratically selected, resulting in our students being confident that their voice is heard. We have Prefects who are role models and support our younger students, Student Leaders of Learning who take an active role in scrutinising and developing our Teaching and Learning practice and students who are members of our ‘Buddy System’ - fundamental in ensuring the transition of your child is successful.
We continue to further develop our Student Leaders – this is an exciting time for students across our school community, with opportunities and support
to lead, orate, develop and innovate within and beyond the classroom.
We believe instilling confidence in children allows them to meet and go beyond initial expectations placed upon them. We aim to achieve this by embedding a culture of challenge and fostering ambition in our students. Coupled with a strong sense of community, we aim to provide a stimulating and supportive learning environment where students define and develop an in-depth awareness of their own learning needs, in partnership with their teachers.
Setting challenging, yet achievable targets allows us to track students’ progress and reward achievement. High quality feedback ensures that students are fully engaged and given the opportunity to shape their own pathways. It is important that our students are informed and develop the skills they need, to provide them with firm foundations for their future careers beyond PCS.
By providing a rich curriculum and many extra-curricular activities, we engage students to be articulate, literate, numerate and knowledgeable. We want students to enjoy every day and ignite a passion for life-long learning. We aim to instill independence, courtesy and compassion ready for their post-16 lives.
It is important that each student is provided with rigorous academic mentoring through our pastoral system, which provides personalised guidance, motivation and promotes success, which is then celebrated.
We pride ourselves on providing high quality learning experiences that engage and challenge all students. We value and act on student feedback. We have a continual programme of school self-evaluation and staff professional development, drawing on educational research and links with our partnership schools and universities, ensuring high quality teaching and learning throughout the school.
