Tomoaki Suzuki Exhibition

The Art department would like to recommend the Tomoaki Suzuki exhibition especially to Yr 9 students as they are looking at puppetry for the next two modules. The exhibition has put a smile on the face of every visitor so far...it runs until 27 February 2011.

The free exhibition will showcase Suzuki’s intricate figurative sculptures that are extraordinarily lifelike in his only UK solo exhibition this year. Handcrafted in lime wood, the sculptures stand at one third human scale and have an uncanny resemblance to the models he works from.

Unlike convention methods of displaying figurative sculpture, Suzuki places his statuettes directly on the floor, rather than on a plinth, encouraging visitors to get down onto the gallery floor to connect with each figure at eye level.
