IF
The Peacehaven-based charity IF (Integration Foundation) is starting to work with children in Ghana to help them have a better life. Many children have to take on responsibilities for childcare, work and domestic chores from the age of five. There is no free school and many children work at the rubbish tip burning toxic plastic off of old electrical equipment to get at the copper wire, often leading to serious sickness. All of these things stop them from going to school to learn skills that would benefit them in the adult world.
PCS will be working with IF to lend our support and do some linking with some Ghanaian students. We will be collecting unwanted items that will be taken to children in Ghana in the new year. These include:
Unwanted clothing, Shoes, Books, Pens, Coloured pencils, Toiletries, Bed linen, Reading glasses, Mobile phones
If you would like to donate any of the above items, please bring them to the school library. We will be following IF’s trip on Twitter in the new year and if you would like to include a note to pass on to the students in Ghana IF would be really keen for you to do so.
As a school we are also planning to do some linking with one or two of the schools that IF will be working with so that we can share some of our experiences and ideas with them and so that they can teach us about their lives and culture.
