On Saturday the 15th October four Year 11 students (Alice Flattery, Megan Child, Jack Payne and Carl Cafferey) participated in a maths ‘Training Boot Camp’ held at the University Of Sussex. The day was designed for students years 11, 12 and 13 and was a practice run- of the Senior Maths Team Challenge held later on in the year. We were competing against 7 other teams from schools and colleges from around Brighton and Hove and were one of only 2 teams of year 11 students. But our hard work and persistence paid off and even with the disadvantage of subjects we hadn’t studied we were thrilled when we placed joint 2nd. All in all it was a fun day and a great experience, especially because we’re students interested in going into further maths. Here are some opinions about the day;
“Although I found the maths questions challenging I really enjoyed the day as it gave me an insight to what A level maths is going to be like for me next year.”
- Alice Flattery
“It feels like you learn so much at GCSE but really you’re only scratching the surface there’s so much more when you reach A level and beyond but it made me confident that there was some higher levels questions I could do by combining things I’ve already learnt.” - Megan Child
