Big Fat Maths Quiz of the Year 2011
Wow, what a battle! Blood, sweat and tears were all shed – and that was just the teachers! There hasn’t been a fight like this in the world of Mathematics since one of Pythagoras’ students told him that irrational numbers existed. Of course, that student was never seen again and perhaps there will now be some PCS students treading carefully around their teachers after some excellent performances.
In the end, it was a teachers’ team that took the title with a massive 20600 points, however they were pushed all the way by the impressive year 10 boys’ team (Matt Collenette, Andy Birch, Jack Carter, Mark Parker, Ross Pidwell, Dan Hill) who finished in second place with a mighty score of 20550 points (just 50 points in it!).
The team work, persistence and enthusiasm shown by all the participants was electrifying. So much so that the Maths faculty are already looking forward to next year’s quiz.
Lastly, a special thanks to Mrs Tait who was responsible for the incredible environment and to Stuart Camp whose assistance to the quiz master was invaluable. That Mr Kanakri wasn’t bad either! Well done all.
