Holocaust Memorial Day

Tree of RemembranceTree of RemembranceStudents at Peacehaven Community School gathered by their tree of remembrance for a ceremony for Holocaust Memorial Day.They were joined by representatives of local churches and the local mayor.

Messages from other organisations, such as East Sussex Disability Association, and Spectrum, a LGBT rights group based in Brighton, were read out by students.

Each of the persecuted groups were represented and messages of remembrance were read out and placed on the tree. Students read their own messages of hope, and promises to fight discrimination, which were also placed on the tree. Some students were remembering relatives who died in the concentrations camps as victims of Nazi persecution.
