Puppet Winners
In July we exhibited work produced by school children in their local community at the Meridian Centre. There were displays in the Co-op & Flower City and the public were asked to vote on which puppet they liked best. The results are as follows:
In joint third place - "Almost Alice" by Cheryl Parker and "Undercover Gilbert" by Benjamin Gilbert.
In second place - "Drag da Queen" by Sian Plant
The winner was "Henry the Hoover" by Callum Wood
The Co-op gave each winner a prize and have posters up in the café window showing the winners.
PCS Puppet Exhibition
Year 9 students at PCS have been hard at work, designing and sculpting puppets, but not just any old puppets – their idea of their own alter ego’s. The project was designed by Sarah Elliot (Head of Art) and Ruth Mulvie in response to a need to exhibit work produced by school children in their local community.
Shop managers in Peacehaven Meridian Centre were keen to get involved and make the project happen. The manager of the Co-Op kindly offered the opportunity for students to display their works of art in the window of the co-op café, for members of the public to view whilst sipping their lattes! and Flower City agreed to install the works in the window for the miniature masterpieces to be found amongst the marigolds!!! Displaying art work outside of a more traditional gallery setting will allow the work to be appreciated by a far wider section of the community.
Students have thoroughly enjoyed working on the projects and have sculpted the unique pieces using clay and paper pulp. Students let their imaginations run wild and characters include, punks, counts, boxers, sporting hero’s, film stars, celebs, animals and accidents!
