Theatre Royal Visit

On 8th November 13 Year 9 Students attended a day long event at the Theatre Royal Brighton looking at careers behind the scenes in the theatre and entertainment industries.
The students were kept busy all day. In the morning they took part in workshops in special effects make-up, where they learnt to create black eyes and steri-striped cuts. They also learnt about theatre lighting and pyrotechnics. This included learning how to rig a lighting boom along with creating smoke and loud bangs. Students were also introduced to working on the fly floor, where strong arms and a very good head for heights was needed.
The afternoon ended with mask making and most people’s favourite the “Pop Concert Scenario”. Here they all had a go at working the follow spot, filming the action on stage and transferring the images to the large projection screen behind. However, the smiles seemed to be biggest while providing the Air Guitar action on stage.
