Young Consumer Of The Year

On February 5th four Year 11 Business Studies students competed in the East Sussex Final of the Young Consumers of the Year competition run by Trading Standards.
In the final Dan Coster, Sophie Jenkins, Will Lessels and Georgia Reynolds competed in six rounds of questions winning a certificate of achievement and £10 gift token as the runner up team.
The TSI Young Consumers of the Year Competition is a unique competition involving hundreds of schools across England, Scotland and Wales which rise to the challenge to become the nation’s top young consumers.
Teams of four, aged between 14 and 18, compete in a knockout quiz which tests them on a range of consumer issues.
It is designed to educate young people to be aware of their responsibilities as well as their rights, giving them the skills to help make informed decisions when purchasing items on a day-to-day basis, as well as helping prepare for life after school.
The competition is in 3 stages, local finals to regional competitions, culminating in the national final at TSI's consumer affairs and trading standards annual conference and exhibition.
This will be next held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre June 15-17 2010.
The competition makes the competitors awareness of their responsibilities as well as their rights and gives them essential life skills as they prepare for the world of work and in many areas links to the citizenship curriculum.
