PCS Awards Evening

Academic and Community Awards Ceremony July 2025

Over the course of 2 evenings PCS welcomed over 200 students and their families to our July 2025 Academic and Community Awards Ceremony.

Our year 7 and 8 students and their families joined us on Thursday 17th July for an evening dedicated to celebrating the incredible successes and achievements displayed by so many of our students across the year.

Students were nominated by teaching staff for either Academic Excellence or Exceptional Progress in each of the lessons on the curriculum. There were also Special Recognition Awards for some students, those who had been successful in their participation in national poetry competitions and the Royal Academy online summer Art
competition, as well as certificates for students who have been instrumental in supporting both the school community and the wider community this year.

The evening began with a warm welcome by Ms Henocq, our Headteacher, followed by 2 articulate and inspirational speeches by Jemima in Year 7 and Olivia in Year 8. Olivia also entertained us with a short, humorous video clip account of life as a year 8 student!

It was wonderful to welcome back some of our alumni, ex-students Amber, Ellie and Thomas who updated us on their journeys since leaving PCS, before presenting some certificates. The evening concluded with the presentation of trophies to our Students of The Year.

These are Students nominated by the whole staff team, who have displayed one of
the 4 PCS Values. Aspire, Believe, Contribute, Achieve

The celebrations continued on Monday 21st July for our older students, where again we had a packed hall of Year 9 and 10 students and their families celebrating the fantastic work that has taken place across the year. In addition to the Outstanding Achievement, Exceptional Progress and Community awards, we also celebrated students who had participated in the Roedean Academy programme and those who had displayed exceptional teamwork skills on the Digital Futures Accelerator Project, an extra-curricular STEM project.

The evening provided an opportunity to acknowledge the 55 students who have completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and we are looking forward to giving them their own celebration evening in September.

Following on from Ms Henocq’s welcome, 4 of our students, Kayden and Riley in year 9 and Katelyn and Georgia in year 10 began the presentations with some excellent speeches about life at PCS and how their engagement in many of the different activities and opportunities provided by PCS has led to their own personal successes.

As well as alumni Thomas and Amber, who presented to the audience once again, we would like to say a very big thank you to our other guest speakers Patricia Metham, our Chair of Governors and Jake Donkin-Peters from the University of Brighton who we work with in very close partnership to provide opportunities for all of our students.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Elly Griffiths, local British Crime author, who gave us all a very motivational speech about following our dreams and believing in ourselves. It was wonderful to hear her read out the poem written by Erin (year 10 National Empowered Poetry competition winner 2025).
