Y10 Oxford Visit

On Thursday 19th March, 30 year 10 students had the most incredible opportunity to visit St John’s College Oxford.

After a very early start, we arrived in a sun-drenched Oxford, an amazingly beautiful city. Our minibuses dropped us off just outside St John’s and we had a very brief stroll around the surrounding area before being met at the College by Megan, an ex-student of the University and our guide for the day.

Our day began with introductions and a very warm welcome (as well as drinks and snacks!) in one of the college halls and Megan gave us a really indepth and informative description of University life at Oxford. We had an opportunity to ask and answer questions and learnt a lot.

We then went for lunch in the refectory. It was such an incredible environment and the food was delicious, there was loads of it!

After lunch we went to the Ashmolean Museum. It is Britain’s first public museum and was first erected in 1678-16-83. It was full of amazing exhibits.

We had to ask questions about the source and reasoning behind a really large exhibit and after that we were given some museum pieces to handle to work out what they were and why they might be in the museum. It was fascinating and fun.

We were then split into 2 groups and were toured around the college campus by a second year student and a third year student. After the tours we had a chance to ask a lot more questions of these students about their life experience at Oxford.

It was a truly amazing day and we would like to thank Megan and her team for organising this for us.
