PCS Question Time

On Friday 28th November, Chris Ward visited PCS to speak with a group of 80 students.

Chris Ward has served as Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven since 2024. Chris Ward was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Office in 2025 and is a member of the Labour Party.

Following a brief introduction to what the work of a politician entails and a description of a week in Politics, students engaged enthusiastically in a Q and A session.

Staff were really impressed with the depth of questioning and students listened eagerly to the responses.

As well as questions regarding the local community - the Meridian Centre and shopping area, the potholes and the street lights, and activities for the youth in the local area, students asked some really good questions about more national issues pertinent to their age group.

‘’The Government has said that the voting age for the next General Election will be 16. What do you think are the pros and cons of this happening? How do we encourage 16 year olds to fully engage with this?’’

‘’What are your views on AI? Is it a help or a hindrance?’’

‘’What are your feelings about the flags that are appearing locally and nationally?

The questions kept flowing. A really interesting event, and we hope one that will be the first of many as we move closer to the change in the voting age and need for student political awareness.
