Celebrating Inspiring Women

International Women's Day (IWD) has been around for 115 years, as have many of the issues still impacting women's advancement.

The theme of International Women’s Day this year is ‘Give to Gain’, encouraging
collaboration and collective action to accelerate gender equality.

To mark International Women’s Day 2026, Roedean School held its festival Celebrating Inspiring Women on Friday 6th March. Students from Peacehaven Community School were invited to listen to a diverse group of guest speakers - academics, a GP, a Lieutenant Colonel, a plumber, an entrepreneur, musicians and an author - all women. The speakers all gave talks which were enlightening, empowering and most of all extremely inspirational.

‘’I enjoyed listening to the information and personal career choices and experiences that these successful women have had.’’ Ollie

‘‘It was a new, fun experience which gave us a new opportunity. It allowed us to delve into the world of education in strong relation to women and our power.’’ Isabella

‘’The talks were really motivating and inspiring." Taylin

‘’I really enjoyed the talk with Josephine Vander West. I found it very inspiring as she was just very honest and didn't just share the easy and good ways of getting into her career and becoming successful, she was very realistic and honest, which I thought was very nice to hear. I also went to the talk by Professor Anna Robinson-Pant and I found that very interesting as I didn't know that there were careers like the one she had. It made me think about new career options for myself." Abi

‘’I really enjoyed the second talk led by Jillian Terry. It was very informative, engaging and inspirational and it helped me reflect on my future.’’ Maya

‘’I enjoyed getting to hear about what an electronic engineer does and hearing about different ways it can be applied in the workforce. It was very interesting as I am someone who wants to work in that area in the future.’’ Daniela

Peacehaven Community School students are looking forward to celebrating International Women’s Day next week with assemblies, a bake sale, in class activities and their own guest speaker from Project Female.
